Anemoi mittens
The second was very much faster than the first to knit, mainly because I didn’t have to stop after every two rows to give my brain a rest. My right hand is getting the hang of this knitting lark, it’s not as sure as the left hand but not as gormless as it was when I started the first mitten. I am beginning to think that this time I really am making progress with two handed colour knitting. I still have to master picking up the other colour to avoid long floats, I can do it in one colour but the other defeats me. I suppose it would help if I looked it up, I have it in a real live book somewhere but that would have involved getting off the settee to look for it.
These are Eunny’s Anemoi mittens. I changed the cast on and on the second I grafted the mitten tip rather than doing the three needle bind off on the inside. I did have a moment of crisis on the first thumb (I can’t do this, too many needles, too few stitches) before I remembered that I have previously made gloves which not only have thumbs but fingers too. Get a grip, girl. These are knitted in something black and unlabelled from the sock yarn drawer and some home dyed commercially spun BFL (blue faced leicester) sock yarn I bought on ebay. I’d post a link to the seller except that they don’t look to be selling it now. The green is very slightly variegated and I like the effect that has when knitted with the black. I still have 120g of the green left so you will no doubt be seeing it again after it has matured in the drawer for a while. This was my first two colour – two hands project and I’m glad that I stuck with it rather than reverting to having both yarns in one hand. I did go back to that for the thumbs, you can see that they look rather uneven and that’s why.
